What is Perpetual Adoration?

Perpetual Adoration is a Eucharistic devotion where members of the parish unite in taking hours of adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament, both during the day and throughout the night, seven days a week.

Why is exposition in a monstrance preferred?

To see Jesus visibly present under the appearance of the small white host is much more conducive to intimacy than hidden away in the tabernacle. Moreover, it adds an extra responsibility on the adorers to be sure to be faithful to the hours they are scheduled, since the suggested norm for having Jesus exposed in the monstrance is that there should be at least two adorers present, and He must never be left alone. Could not these words of our Lord be applied today: “Indeed, this is the will of My heavenly Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son, and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day.”

What are some good reasons for Perpetual Adoration?

To provide an easy, attractive, and practical way of rendering God adoration which is His due as our Creator, of giving Him thanks for our redemption, of making reparation for our sins and the sins of mankind; of petitioning the good God for the constant help we need.

To show our gratitude to our Lord for remaining among us in our tabernacles, and to make at least some atonement for the many sacrileges, indifferences, and ingratitude which He receives in His Sacrament of Love.

What spiritual benefits and graces can be attributed to the establishment of a Parish Perpetual Adoration Program?

  • an increase in Mass attendance and reception of the sacraments;
  • return of fallen-away Catholics and an increase in the number of conversions;
  • increase in religious and priestly vocations;
  • renewal of Catholic family life;
  • the spiritual level of the people is raised with a resulting desire and courage to spread the “good news” to others;
  • greater community spirit, centered as it is on the heart of the parish, Jesus’ presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

Perpetual Adoration Safety Measures

Phone:

As there is no longer access to a telephone for emergency use, adorers are encouraged to take a cell phone into the Chapel during all night time hours, remembering to turn the sound to “mute” or “off”. For non-emergency questions, call Mary Hartwell at 264-1904.  Of course, dial 911 first if another scheduled Adorer or visitor becomes injured or seriously ill, then call Mary at 264-1904.

Security Code:

Monday – Thursday: During the day from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, the outside door to the Chapel is unlocked.   During these days, the door locks automatically in the evening at 4:30 PM and unlocks the next morning at approximately 6:30 AM.

Friday evening:  The door locks at 4:30 PM and remains locked throughout the weekend and unlocks on Monday morning at 6:30 AM.

You will need a code for the keypad to enter the chapel through the outside door during the locked hours.  The code to the door is entered on the keypad like a push-button telephone keypad.

To receive the security code, please call Mary Hartwell at 264-1904.

When the Chapel is Locked:

You may not open the door to anyone who does not have the code. This is for your own protection, for the protection of the others in the chapel with you, and for the protection of the Blessed Sacrament which you are entrusted to safeguard for that hour.  Do NOT give the code to anyone.

Police Patrol:

The police and sheriff’s departments have been notified that there will be extra activity in and around our chapel each night.  We have asked them to keep extra watch on our property during the nighttime hours.

Check Doors:

During night hours, check all doors to be certain that they are locked, including the two wooden doors that lead into the church since the chapel is locked long before the front doors of the church are locked.  In addition, check the single glass door by the sign-in-table and the outside double door by the bathrooms.  If any of the glass doors are not locked, call Mary Hartwell at 264-1904.
