Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a time of preparation for Easter.
The act of marking one’s head with ashes was an Old Testament practice and was done by those in the Order of Penitents in the early Church. However, the practice of using ashes to begin the season of Lent became customary in England in the beginning of the eleventh century and by the end of the century Pope Urban II made the practice universal.
The ashes call us to repentance and conversion of heart as we begin the disciplines of Lent.
Ashes will be distributed on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00PM, 5:00 PM – Misa en Español and at 7:00 PM.
El Miércoles de Ceniza marca el comienzo de la temporada de Cuaresma, un tiempo de preparación para la Pascua.
El acto de marcar la cabeza con cenizas era una práctica del Viejo Testamento y lo realizaban los miembros de la Orden de los Penitentes en la Iglesia primitiva. Sin embargo, la práctica de usar cenizas para comenzar la temporada de Cuaresma se convirtió en una costumbre en Inglaterra a principios del siglo XI y, a fines del siglo, el Papa Urbano II hizo que la práctica fuera universal.
Las cenizas nos llaman al arrepentimiento ya la conversión del corazón al comenzar las disciplinas de Cuaresma.
